This father’s day, it is important to remember all sorts of fathers. If your father is still alive, give him a hug. If he has passed, say a thankful prayer. If you have a friend that is a great father, let them know. Everyone needs to know they are doing a good job.

My father passed away five months before my wedding. I walked down the aisle but still felt his spirit. I think of him often with fond memories. He never met Scarlet, but I’m sure he is laughing at her antics from heaven.

I have a close friend who is a father of 4 great kids. He and his wife do a wonderful job. I was talking to him once when he was having doubts about his parenting skills (as many parents do from time to time). About a week later Tim Russert was in town for a book signing for his second book, “Wisdom of Our Fathers.” Mr. Russert left a blank page in the front for buyers to write a note to their dad. I wrote a note to my friend. Mr. Russert’s autographed the book and I had a picture taken of the two of us that I included as a gift to my friend. For the first time in his life, my friend was speechless.

My heart goes out to Luke Russert, the son of Tim Russert. My husband and I are huge Tim Russert fans and were deeply saddened with his sudden death. He should have lived for many more years…or at a minimum to see who the next President of the United States will be. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tim Russert’s wife, son, sisters, Big Russ and his many friends, coworkers, colleagues, and fans.

A special hug goes to Luke. Like me, you will feel your father’s presence when you need or just want him there.
